In his study "Relationships of Water to the Risk of Dying", Dr. Sauer chronicled the relationship of TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) to heart disease, cancer and other chronic diseases. TDS is the term for all elements present in any water supply. It had been thought for centuries that the European mineral waters so very high in total dissolved solids were beneficial to health. But as TDS increases in a water supply, so does the number of chronic diseases increase in the population using that supply. California's renowned hot mineral water resorts have had to replace their water pipes after only a few years due to mineral build-up in pipes. What water quality does to plumbing in buildings, it also does to human pipes!

Water chlorination has been widely used to "purify" water in the U.S.A. For most of this century. But surely its negative effects on health outweigh any benefits. Dr. Joseph Price believes there is a definite link between widespread chlorination of water supplies and the increasing incidence of heart disease! In animal experiments he conducted, chlorine caused atherosclerosis in 95% of the animals tested. In New Orleans for just one example of what is happening around the world, drinking water is taken from the Mississippi River. There are over 66 new carcinogenic compounds that have been isolated in the water supply as a result of adding chlorine that combines with methanol, carbon disulfide and other compounds. A very high incidence of colon cancer is associated with this area. One expert, Dr. Herbert Schwartz, believes that the chlorine-treated water is directly responsible for cancers, heart disease and premature senility.

There is more and more evidence that the majority of human cancers are environmental in origin and thereby largely preventable. In fact, an astounding number of chemical - possibly carcinogenic compounds are to be found in our water. After treatment as well as in surface and ground water resources. A recent ABC News expose revealed the shocking fact that over 700 chemicals have already been found in our drinking water. Of these, 129 have been pin-pointed by the EPA as posing serious health risks. Yet the agency requires that our water supplies be tested for only 14 of them. One carcinogen found in many municipal water systems, chloroform can be introduced during chlorine treatment. A known animal carcinogen, it is present in measurable levels of nearly all municipal water systems as a by-product of water chlorination!
These are extracts from the book "The Shocking Truth About Water" by authors Patricia Bragg Ph.D and Paul Bragg N.D., Ph.D (Life Extension Specialists). This book is not used again in a complete report on water quality. Here is another fact: In research begun way back in 1960, the water supplies of 1,633 of the largest cities in the U.S. were analyzed. Results of this long study showed a definite link between water quality and the mortality rate from cardiovascular, carcinogenic and other chronic diseases.
